Georgia will not extend the duration of an agreement with Russia that allows transportation of Russian military cargo and personnel via Georgia.
The announcement was made by the Deputy Georgian Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze on Tuesday.
According to the Georgian TV Station Imedi, the proposal was made by President Mikheil Saakashvili.
The agreement was signed between Tbilisi and Moscow on 31 March 2006 and expires in November this year.
The agreement allows transportation of the Russian cargo and personnel by air, railway and vehicles via Georgia.
It comes after Russia signed an agreement with Armenia in August last year, extending the lease of a Russian military base in Armenia’s second largest city of Gyumri.
