enia’s strongest judo athletes showed bad performance at the 2011 European Judo Championship held in Istanbul, Turkey.
According to the Armenian sports news website Armsport.am, Hovhannes Davtyan (60kg) won the first bout with Matiats Tbrovts (Slovakia) but lost to Bekvil Shukvani (Georgia) in the second one.
At the 66 kg category Armenia had two athletes – Armen Nazaryan and Hambardzum Tonoyan.
Nazaryan won the first bout, but lost the second one to Sergiy Pliyev (Ukraine), while Tonoyan lost just the first fight with Deniss Kozlovs (Latvia).
Among women athletes Gayane Harutyunyan (48kg) was beaten by Severin Pesch (Germany).
Man athletes at the 73 kg and 81 kg categories and women athletes at the 63 kg and 70 kg categories will compete on April 22.
