Like all over the world, an increased rate of nervous and cardiovascular diseases is observed in Armenia by every year. Those diseases tend to "get younger," which according to specialists, is caused by hard "socio-economic" conditions.
On the one hand, young people nowadays have more prospects than 30-40 years ago, on the other hand, however, life has become very complicated for them, Elmira Gevorgyan, chief neurologist of Yerevan, told jounrlists today.
Specialists are concerned by the sharp increase in the number of people suffering from multiple sclerosis. The incidence of this disease has grown 20-30 times over the past 20 years. It should not be linked to the sclerosis which occurs in elderly people. This is something new for Armenia, and its causes are unknown. It has different sympotms in different people and is believed globally to be caused by some virus, the chief neurologist stressed.
