Opposition movement Armenian National Congress (HAK) has filed a case to the Administrative Court, HAK lawyer Vahe Hovsepyan told Tert.am.
The lawsuit demands that court recognize the actions taken by the Armenian law enforcement bodies during the 1-2 March 2008 events as illegal.
Including the claims of more than 100 citizens, the lawsuit particularly mentions that the actions taken by Armenia’s Defense Ministry, National Security Service and the police have violated the citizens’ right of freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and freedom of movement.
The violations of these rights, according to the lawsuit, have been accompanied by killings, by an illegally imposed emergency rule and by breach of Armenia’s obligations stipulated by the Constitution and assumed by international agreements.
Mr Hovsepyan also said that it is not clear whether or not the court started proceedings has over the lawsuit.
“We have not received any [information] about any court action,” Vahe Hovsepyan said.
HAK had announced about its intention to sue the Armenian state during its September 17 rally.
