Armenian health authorities deny swine flu epidemic in wake of two deaths

Health authorities in Armenia deny there is a swine flu epidemic in the country after two confirmed deaths – of a man and a pregnant woman – from what is officially known as H1N1.

Chief Specialist of the Health Ministry's State Hygienic and Anti-epidemic Inspectorate Liana Torosyan told ArmInfo, however, that the two cases reported since the beginning of the year do not constitute an epidemic and that in both cases the patients died because they applied for medical assistance too late and they were suffering also from other diseases.

Torosyan also said that H1N1 is a form of regular seasonal influenza and it is wrong to call it swine flu. She said that 3-5 million of people die from flu every year in the world.
