Media reports in Armenia in recent days have named at least two possible female candidates in next year's presidential election.
If either of them eventually makes a bid she (or both of them) will become the first woman(en) to vie for presidency in Armenia.
The Yerevan daily, Hraparak, writes on Friday that Chair of the National Press Club Narine Mkrtchyan has been actively holding meetings with political figures as well as students and young people. The paper says Mkrtchyan herself confirmed this information, saying that among those she has been meeting with are also "businessmen who are concerned about the country's future."
She avoided, however, giving a clear answer on whether this was part of preparations for her presidential bid, saying that she would speak about it publicly soon.
