The AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships Yerevan 2012 got underway this week in the Armenian capital with the action set to conclude on Friday, December 7. Included in the lineup are 12 Azeri athletes among more than 600 participants from 68 countries who will be battling it out across 10 weight categories over eight days of competition.
Derenik Gabrielyan, vice-president of the Armenian Boxing Federation, says all measures have been taken to ensure the Azeri athletes' safety. Upon their request the Azeri team has been isolated from the rest; they will meet the other participants only during the matches.
