Two major accidents in Yerevan on Thursday – nine people were hospitalized from one, and another left two dead – have once again raised concerns among public over the responsibility of control bodies and the quality of construction.
The October 25 collapse of a half-finished residential building in downtown Yerevan was followed by another accident. This time it was an elevator at a newly-built multi-storey building which led to the death of two people and two more were hospitalized. The Ministry for Emergency Situations reports that the elevator is "homemade", not registered in the ministry register and has not been test-approved. According to the ministry data, the elevator of the building belonging to Renshin construction company broke loose and fell from the 17th floor into the elevator shaft killing and injuring passengers.
