It is up to incumbent Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan to decide on his further activities, Hovhannes Sahakyan, Secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary group, told Tert.am.Ghukasyan is not running for the post of Gyumri mayor in the local elections to be held in Armenia September 9."I think elections will pass smoothly. The issue may be raised and the party will discuss it," Sahakyan said. The party has not yet discussed the issue of "where it sees this political figure," he added.A number of RPA members will compete in the local elections in a number of Armenian regions.Asked whether it is evidence of "anarchy within the party," Sahakyan said that it is evidence of democracy within the party."Seeing that two or three of our team members equally enjoy public confidence, we did not impose the party's decision on communities," Sahakyan said.   Read more...
