The popular Armenian DJ Arusik Mkrtchyan, best known as DJ Vakcina, has opened an NGO to encourage a healthy lifestyle and protect the society from psychological manipulations.
The organization called Be Aware has a mission to serve the society, a co-president told Tert.am a couple of days ago."The NGO will work in different directions. Different workshops and trainings devoted to healthy lifestyle will be conducted. We will also address psychological issues," she said.
Yeva Ohanyan, another co-president who holds a PhD candidate degree in psychology, will tackle psychological problems.
"Awareness today is necessary for people to help them beware of such psychological manipulations as may be the sects. We have decided to organize a workshop on the topic to ensure people's psychological protection," Mkrtchyan said.
The DJ noted that the framework of topics is not something new to her as she previously conducted events devoted to healthy lifestyle and initiated different charity functions.
"It is several years now I have been engaged in charity, conducting anti-smoking and anti-drug abuse events and workshops. I am also Armenia's UN representative on combating AIDS," she said.
The organization will work mainly for the youth, the 26-year-old DJ added.
"The workshops will, of course, attract older people too, but the NGO is more for the young as they are the most active group," she said.
Asked whether Be Aware will also deal with sexual minorities, Mkrtchyan said they have no specific plans for that group of population.
"But given that they are in the risk group, together with drug users, activities will target them as well," she added.
The NGO's first project will be a fundraising for children suffering from leukemia.
"The event will be probably organized on September 20, and we expect great activeness by the youth," Mkrtchyan said.
