While much of the world has turned against the use of plastic bags as an ecological hazard, in Armenia they remain an essential and omnipresent part of daily living.
Lunches are carried in them. Construction workers carry their work clothes in them. People on their way to gym carry workout clothes in them. Students carry books in them . . .
And if it takes 1,000 years for a polyethylene bag to decompose, as environmentalists claim, one might ponder whether it will also be that long before the bags disappear from sidewalks, roadways, underpasses, hallways and from their necessary role in life here.
