More marriages and divorces have been registered in Armenia as compared with last year, Karine Kuyumjyan, Head of the Census and Demography Department, Statistical Service of Armenia, told journalists on Monday.Overall, 4,668 marriages were registered in Armenia this January-March against 4,606 last January-March (a 1.4% annual increase).On the other hand, 779 divorces were registered this January-March against 776 last January-March.Six marriages per 1,000 residents and one divorce per 1,000 residents were registered in Armenia.The demographer Ruben Yeganyan noted that the figures should be treated with caution. The reason is that marriages are, as a rule, officially registered after a couple has a child.
