Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, has issued a statement, expressing concerns over the recent armed clashes on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the Line of Contact between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan.
In a statement disseminated on behalf of Ashton late last week the senior EU official said she "deeply regrets" the loss of life in the June 4-6 incidents.
The High Representative called on both sides "to strictly respect the ceasefire and exercise restraint on the ground and in public statements in order to prevent a further escalation of the situation, which has been deteriorating during the last several months."
