The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh will initiate founding an opera house in Stepanakert, capital city of Nagorno-Karabakh, at the suggestion of cultural figures of Armenia's opera community.
"Artsakh [Nagorno-Karabakh] has always been a center of culture, it had many actors and actresses, composers, therefore the opera art is simply a necessity there, and it will also raise the political status of Artsakh by all means, because opera is one of the standards of being civilized," said Professor of Komitas Yerevan State Conservatory Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, at a press conference on Wednesday, adding that the idea of founding an opera house [in Nagorno-Karabakh] originated yet in 2000, however, steps to fulfill it are taken only now.
