Armenian grandmaster Gabriel Sargissian has pulled off an impressive victory at a prestigious tournament in the United States that finished this week.
Sargissian, who was a member of the gold-medal winning Armenian team at the chess Olympiads in 2006 and 2008 as well as the World Team Chess Championship in 2011, scored 7 points out of 9 to solely take the first prize among 93 participants at Chicago Open, according to chess news website Armchess.
The 28-year-old is 71st on the FIDE Top Player rating list published on May 1.
Meanwhile, Armenia's GM Georgy Arzumanian became the champion of Ukraine in Kharkov's "Law Acadamy" club, winning all 6 games in a tournament.
