After several attempts to hold televised debates between representatives of the opposed political camps during the current election campaign, the first such event took place on Thursday.
The lack of the tradition of holding televised debates ahead of elections in Armenia perhaps also accounted for what looked like the absence of debating culture among the participants who were talking simultaneously through much of the 30-minute moderated discussion. Predictably, the acrimony continued online among politically active Armenian Facebookers.
The debate hosted by ArmNews TV featured two candidates in electoral district N2, including Yerevan's Nor-Nork district – Vladimir Karapetyan, a member of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC), and Samvel Farmanyan, who is a member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).
