le=”text-align: justify; “>All teachers and principals from towns surrounding and including Akhaltskha were summoned to a meeting Monday where they were warned against attending commemorations of the 97th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on April 24, Asbarez reports.
After conferring with their principal, several teachers from the Hovaness Toumanian School had appealed to their city hall asking permission to take part in scheduled commemoration events on April 24. Apparently, this prompted city officials to issue an across the board warning to all educators of Armenian descent, barring them from participating in Genocide commemoration events.
Local officials said that this was the first instance where government officials have barred Akhaltskha residents to take part in Genocide commemoration activities and church services.
