German conductor Kurt Mazur faints at Paris concert

German conductor Kurt Mazur lost consciousness during a concert in Paris and had to be rushed to hospital, the Voice of Russia reported.

The 84-year maestro took a fall as his orchestra performed the First Symphony by Dmitry Shostakovich.

Mazur will now undergo a number of medical checkups, particularly in connection with his advancing Parkinson’s disease.

Kurt Mazur was born in 1927 in Brieg, Lower Selesia (now Brzeg in Poland).

He worked with the cream of Europe’s orchestras and was honored with a large number of prestigious awards.

In 2002, he became music director of Orchestre Nationale de France.
