The Armenian Students’ Union of Belgium has issued an open letter, addressing the environmental problems in Armenia and expressing solidarity with the activists combating the potential environmental hazards of Teghut forest (Lori region) and the kiosks in Yerevan’s Mashtots Park.

The Union says particularly that the Armenian youth in Belgium follows the environmentalists’ campaign with great enthusiasm, considering their movement a serious effort towards reviving the Armenian youth and urging the authorities take the people’s opinion into consideration.

“Several mines are being already operated in gross violation of environmental rules. The ruthless exploitation of the lithosphere without observance of the necessary environmental norms will, beyond doubt, lead to disastrous aftermaths in the foreseeable future, causing pollution of water, air and soil; desertification; depopulation of villages and an increasing exodus.
