8 injured in molybdenium plant explosion

An explosion outside the Armenia Molybdenum Production earlier today has left eight people injured.


Photo reporter Gagik Shamshyan told Tert.am from the scene that the blast hit the territory of the plant at 5:30 am Yerevan time.

The survivors – Robert Harutyunuyan (27), Armen Karapetyan (23), Varazdat Hakobyan (25), Harutyun Sahakyan (35), Azat Sulugyan (34), Arsen Muradyan (53), Sevada Mesropyan (58), and Melik Karapetyan (53) – were hospitalized with different degrees of burns. Some of them are said to be in the Burn Centre.

A police task force and a team from the Ministry of Emergency Situations that arrived on the scene after the incident were not immediately allowed access to the premises on the grounds that it was a private territory. But after negotiations with the plant’s security guards, they managed to gain entrance to the building.
