Two blasts hit Syrian capital

Two explosions have been heard in the Syrian capital Damascus, BBC News reported, citing state TV.

A broadcast described the explosions as “terrorist” attacks. Preliminary reports suggested vehicles packed with explosives had been detonated, it said.

According to residents and opposition sources security buildings have been hit.

The cause has not been confirmed and it is not known if there are casualties.

The blasts came two days after the first anniversary of the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.

The unrest has left more than 8,000 people dead.

Fresh anti-government protests were held on Friday in cities across Syria.

And there was a return of violence to the Damascus suburbs – the first significant fighting there since government forces imposed military control some weeks ago.
