Emergency bill would have prevented March 1 tragedy in Armenia

le=”text-align: justify; “>If a law on legal regime of emergency situations had been in effect in 2008, the tragic events on March 1 2008 would not have happened, Lernik Alexanyan, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary group, told journalists on Thursday.

He is sure that neither Armenia’s authorities nor the opposition were behind the tragedy.

Gurgen Yeghiazaryan, a member of the Social Democrats party, who was debating with Mr Alexanyan, noted that the bill is supposed to preclude the opposition’s statements on a military coup in Armenia. “They need to adopt bill now to say they have legally brought troops into Yerevan,” Yeghiazaryan said.
