Germany can replace France in Minsk Group – Turkish official

In case the French Constitutional Court confirms the constitutionality of the bill criminalizing genocide denials, Azerbaijan will have to call for removing France from the OSCE Minsk Group, a Turkish analyst has said.

Speaking to Regnum news agency, Elhan Shahinoglu, the director of Atlas Research Center, proposed that Germany replace France as a mediator in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace deal.

“Otherwise, the mutual cooperation with Turkey, which is a strategic ally, will cause problems,” said he, adding that Turkey expects Azerbaijan to take real steps. “If no measures are taken, with [Baku] turning a blind eye to the pro-Armenia policies of Paris, that will not only affect the relationship with Turkey, but also greatly harm Azerbaijan’s image.”
