Being elected not an ultimate goal - ruling party rep

Lots of people want to have their name registered in political parties’ proportional representation lists in order to be elected to parliament, Karine Achemyan, a member of the ruling Republican Party faction in National Assembly, has said.

“Very many seek that. I don’t understand what created such an atmosphere when all, without exception, wish to become parliament members,” she told Tert.am at a news conference on Thursday.

It comes after the media circulated reports that many journalists and press secretaries (including females) will soon appear on the Republican’s proportional list.

“I don’t think the gender or the professional orientation matter. We must have a national assembly which is predominantly composed of professionals capable of implementing their own parties’ programs,” she said.
