Vilnius statement calls for peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict – expert

The joint statement adopted at the OSCE’s 18^th Ministerial Council in Vilnius, Lithuania, calls for a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karbakh conflict, according to Alexander Markarov, a political analyst.

“It is targeted at both conflicting countries, especially Azerbaijan. Acording to the document, the problems should be resolved based purely on peaceful methods,” he told a news conference on Wednesday.

Elaborating on the document, the expert particularly highlighted the importance of its first clause which says a peaceful settlement should be a priority not only for the Minsk Group bit also the conflicting parties.

He noted further that the statement contains no new proposals on the conflict settlement.  Read more... (154 words)
