Armenia's egg market not to face shortage ahead of New Year

Armenia’s egg market is unlikely to experience any shortage ahead of the New Year holidays, according to a marketing expert.

At a news conference on Wednesday, Manas Yepremyan, a former director of the Lusakert poultry plant, said 60%-70% of eggs is normally consumed in the country in the New Year period.

He said 5 million eggs have been stored, and another 35 million are expected to be produced by the end of December.

The expert considered the panic over egg shortage artificial, explaining it by consumers’ haste to finish their holiday shopping ahead of time.

International statistic records rank Armenia the world’s fifth biggest egg consumer. The estimations show that an average Armenian citizen consumes 274 eggs annually.
